Biological Networks

Lab of Dr Marcus Kaiser and his team working on the simulation of the dynamics and development of neural networks using Neuroinformatics and network analysis tools. We aim to understand the link between structure and dynamics (e.g. for epilepsy or other network diseases) and to find structural correlates of robustness and functional compensation.

Our research areas are:
Establishing realistic models of brain connectivity and analyzing network properties (Kaiser and Hilgetag, PLoS Computational Biology, 2006; Sporns et al., Trends in Cognitive Sciences, 2004)	Simulating dynamics and seizure spreading in neural networks (Kaiser et al. New J Phys, 2007)
Analysis of in vivo and in vitro neural activity data for validating computational models (Roopun et al. PNAS, 2009)	Understanding the development of networks leading to normal and pathological (e.g. epileptic) dynamics (Kaiser et al., Cerebral Cortex, 2009; Varier and Kaiser, PLoS Comp Biol, 2011)
